Which programming language is the best for dynamic websites?
February 9th, 2010When building a website you need to know which programming language to use in order to create a professional looking website. This can be a rather daunting task as there are several programming languages to choose from for example ASP, Cold Fusion, JSP and PHP so which one should you choose?
In my opinion PHP is the best and easiest to use as it can be run on any operating system where as ASP will only run on Microsoft Servers, also PHP is a free programming language and that is a huge advantage because it is updated by thousands of developers everyday. PHP can be used to connect to MySQL databases, retrieving the date from the server and then formatting it, editing strings, handling email which can be useful in your new web project.
Reliability of this language is amazing as PHP is already run on millions of servers world-wide which means that its powerful enough for even the most demanding of websites. It provides web developers with much more liberation in creating websites and with some outstanding features two with regular elements that can be used frequently. PHP is very good at creating dynamic websites and PHP programmers benefit from the flexibility of editing, modifying and updating the source code when there is a need.
A fact that you may not know already is that PHP is based on a computer language called C++ and the syntax used in PHP is very similar to the code used in C or C++. There are millions of developers world-wide who still believe that C and C++ is still the best programming language over and above new languages created by Microsoft and others.
To show you the power of PHP why not look at the variety of open source content management systems out there that use the language to perform all of the tasks that we want from a website for example Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla, Vanilla CMS etc. All the companies that I have worked for have used PHP aswell.
Another benefit is the fact that 99.9% of hosting companies actually support PHP in there basic packages and can be run on both Windows and Linux platforms. PHP is a server side scripting language initially developed to build powerful websites. Modern web 2.0 applications are largely characterized by mashups and desktop style user interfaces. php is an excellent choice for interacting with other websites and providing rich user experience. Simple php commands like curl or fopen allow you to grab data from other websites with relative ease. Php works well with javascript so you can provide your end users with modern, responsive interfaces that are way beyond the old static interfaces of days past.
